Climate
Enhancing Mitigation and Adaptation
AIR climate scientists work with partners from the private sector, academia, and local, state, federal, tribal, and international governments to help bring the best-available knowledge to challenges related to weather and climate in the Southwest and around the world. We build sustained, collaborative relationships to help communities create lasting and equitable climate resilience.
Centers & Programs
Center for Applied Hydroclimate Sciences
The Center for Applied Hydroclimate Sciences (CAHS) aims to work with several other existing entities within the University of Arizona in the area of climate science and water resources. The center hopes to provide better hydroclimate predictions and projections to help leverage better decision making and science translation, inform natural resource managers and policy makers in arid regions, and provide infrastructure for big-data management.
Center for Climate Adaptation Science and Solutions
CCASS brings together a wealth of expertise at the University of Arizona to support sound management choices in the context of climate change, linking science, information needs of managers, and decision-making.
Climate Assessment for the Southwest
CLIMAS – a NOAA funded partnership between the University of Arizona, the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, and New Mexico State University – has been working with stakeholders from the private sector, academia, local, state, federal, and tribal government since 1998 to help bring the best-available knowledge to challenges related to weather and climate in the Southwest.
International Resilience Lab
The International Resilience Lab collaboratively leads and facilitates socially engaged research and collaboration between the University of Arizona and local and global partners.
Southwest Climate Adaptation Science Center
The SW CASC was established in 2011 to provide objective scientific information, tools, and techniques that land, water, wildlife, and cultural resource managers and other interested parties can apply to anticipate, monitor, and adapt to climate change impacts in the southwestern United States.
University Climate Change Coalition
In December 2018, the University of Arizona joined the University Climate Change Coalition (UC3). UC3 includes 21 other leading North American Research One universities, including the University of California system, Arizona State University, and many more. Together, these institutions are all working to expand our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and working with community partners to encourage climate-related resilience. Providing leadership on these issues is critical to our community, our economy, and to our students’ success, both now and after they graduate.
