When

10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Feb. 15, 2023

Welcome to the inaugural Research Data Challenge for undergrads and grad students!

We are kicking off the challenge at 10 a.m. on Feb. 15 with demonstrations, workshops, and drop-in hours to introduce you to Planet Labs. Planet is partnering with the University to provide free access to a near-daily stream of Earth-observation satellite data. This data stream will be available to all faculty, stand, students and designated campus colleagues starting Feb. 15.

The challenge—the specific theme to tackle will be revealed here on Feb. 15—is a campus-wide student competition. The winners will receive $1,000.

Registration begins Feb. 15.

The workshops and competition are an excellent opportunity for students to learn about and use Planet data and apply their analytical skills and innovation to a research problem. The challenge is sponsored by the University of Arizona’s Institute for Computation & Data-Enabled Insight, Arizona Institute for Resilience, Data Science Institute & Data Cooperative, University Libraries.
