When

All Day, June 15 – 16, 2023

Please join the Center for Applied Hydroclimate Sciences (CAHS) within the Arizona Institute for Resilience at the University of Arizona, for their first external engagement workshop!

CAHS works within UArizona in the area of climate science and water resources. CAHS aims to provide better hydroclimate predictions and projections to help leverage better decision-making and science translation, inform natural resource managers and policymakers in arid regions, and provide infrastructure for big-data management.

By providing these services and working with constituents across campus in a centralized way, CAHS will help UArizona become a leader in the application of hydroclimate information for environmental resilience in the Southwest and beyond.

The purpose of this workshop will be to engage internal and external research collaborators and interested stakeholders, for the purposes of:

  • Providing orientation to CAHS, including current and pending center-related projects

  • Establishing collaborative partnerships by identifying applied hydroclimate research and service needs

and possible routes to supporting these needs

  • Discussing current challenges, including gaps in scientific knowledge and data availability and

    management

Attendees will include internal UArizona participants, external collaborating institutions, and interested stakeholders in Center-related efforts. Invited stakeholders will be from a mix of public and private sector entities, and include organizations involved in hydrometeorological forecasting, water and natural resource management, and the utility and mining industries.

A particular focus of this workshop will be to build a collaborative team of university and industry partners to submit a NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) proposal. IUCRCs help industry partners and government agencies connect directly and efficiently with university researchers to achieve three primary objectives: 1) Conduct high-impact research to meet shared and critical industrial needs in companies of all sizes; 2) Enhance U.S. global leadership in driving innovative technology development, and 3) identify, mentor and develop a diverse, highly skilled science and engineering workforce. The workshop will be in a hybrid format, with in-person participation at UArizona and a virtual participation option. You are invited to attend the full two days, or just for sessions of interest. If you are not able to attend, we would encourage you to suggest an alternate representative from your organization.

Please kindly fill out the attendee interest survey by 9 June:
