Graduate Student Funding

University of Arizona Funding
Western Regional Graduate Program for in-state tuition: This program allows master’s, doctoral, professional and graduate certificate students who are residents of participating WICHE states (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming) to pay Arizona resident tuition.
Graduate College Scholarships and Fellowships: Explore many graduate fellowships, scholarships, and student grants offered through the UA Graduate College. Note: Graduate Certificate students are not eligible for financial assistance, unless concurrently enrolled in a separate MS or PhD program at the University of Arizona.
College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Scholarships: As the academic home of AIR’s resilience education programs, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences offers scholarships for current graduate students, such as the Louis F. Landon Memorial Scholarship, David E. and Lucille C. Nutt Scholarship, and Lillian Fisher Innovative Circle Scholarship. Learn more and apply here.
Scholarship Universe: Scholarship Universe is a searchable database of thousands of student scholarships, only accessible to University of Arizona students. If you aren’t a student yet, you can still preview some opportunities without a student login. You can also attend virtual workshops (January-May) on how to search for scholarships, financial planning for college, and completing the FAFSA.
Graduate Assistantships: Students interested in working 10-15 hours per week in addition to academic coursework are encouraged to pursue graduate assistantships through other campus departments. Graduate assistantships involve working part-time in teaching, research, or administrative roles in exchange for a stipend and partial or full tuition waiver. Teaching assistantships (TA) typically involve assisting professors with teaching undergraduate courses, grading assignments, or leading discussion sections. Research assistantships (RA) involve working on research projects under the supervision of a faculty member. AIR generally does not offer assistantships, however students are welcome to apply for TA or RA positions in other departments. TA and RA positions are generally offered at either 0.25 FTE (10hrs/week) or 0.5 FTE (20hrs/week). These positions are paid (hourly wage varies) and include 50% tuition remission for 0.25 FTE positions and 100% tuition remission for 0.5 FTE positions. Tuition remission applies for Fall and Spring semesters only. See more benefits of graduate assistantships here. Search Handshake (admitted/current students only) and the Arizona Environmental opportunity portal for graduate assistantships and other paid opportunities.
Qualified tuition reduction (QTR) for U of A employees: University of Arizona employees and their domestic partners are eligible for significantly discounted tuition. See more information about QTR.

External Funding
Federal grants and loans: All prospective and current students are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year. Completing the FAFSA unlocks access to federal financial aid, such as Grad PLUS loans and Federal Work-Study. Additionally, many scholarship programs require having a FAFSA on file. See more information and guidance on completing the FAFSA from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. University of Arizona's school code is 001083.
Employer sponsorships: For students who are working while attending school, some employers offer education funding for employees. Ask your employer about options for supporting you in advancing your education, especially in cases where knowledge and skills gained will be applied to your current work. Check if your employer is one of 50+ employers already partnered with Arizona Online to provide tuition support.
