Community, Science, and Partnership in the Sonoita and Patagonia Region

A wide network of regional partners including the Arizona Institute for Resilience's University Climate Change Coalition (UC3) are co-hosting an exciting day of exploration in the Cienega and Sonoita Creek Watersheds. The program will highlight community science initiatives at multiple locations throughout the watersheds. You are invited to learn and share your experience with local and regional partners, stakeholders, and community members in a day of exploration.
7:00-9:00am Birding Tour led by Tucson Audubon (pre-event)
Join us for an optional birding tour led by Tucson Audubon at the Empire Gulch location.
9:30am–10:45am Las Cienegas National Conservation Area
The day will start at the LCNCA's Airstrip Group Campsite. Listen and discuss with experts about the grasslands of the watershed, mining, and ranchland preservation.
11:30am–12:30pm Borderlands Wildlife Preserve
Learn about restoration, wildlife conservation, and recreation opportunities in the area.
1:00–3:00pm The Nature Conservancy’s Sonoita Creek Preserve
Enjoy lunch & participate in a Q and A with restoration, trails, and citizen participation leaders across the region. We will also honor this year's Cienega Watershed Partnership Wall of Honor recipients. Lunch will conclude by celebrating the legacy, work, and accomplishments of Dr. Thomas Meixner in the watershed.
3:00–5:00 pm Patagonia area
Explore the area with Borderlands Restoration Network, BRN's plant nursery, explore local trails such as the Casa Blanca trailhead and Borderlands Wildlife Preserve Trail, or stay at the beautiful site to relax and enjoy festivities at the end of the day.
